There’s something special about the Mattituck Strawberry Festival—and if you know, you know… it all starts with Hulling Night.

We recently had the festival team join us on NOFO LIVE to talk about this beloved annual tradition, a community-powered fundraising carnival that brings the North Fork together year after year. But beyond the rides, shortcake, and strawberry daiquiris, there’s a behind-the-scenes moment that might just be our favorite.

Hulling Night.

It’s when locals gather their crew, roll up their sleeves, and get to work prepping the strawberries that will be used throughout the festival—from daiquiris to shortcake and everything in between. For the past three years, the NOFO LIVE crew has shown up under the big tent to be part of it, and it’s quickly become one of our favorite traditions.

It’s not just about the strawberries—it’s about the people.

You wave to your neighbors. You catch up with friends. You watch kids (and adults) lean into the simple joy of doing something together. There’s laughter, a little friendly competition, and a whole lot of community spirit packed into those tables.

This year was no exception. We showed up, we hulled, and yes… it was berry sweet. 🍓

Moments like these are what make the North Fork so special—coming together, pitching in, and celebrating the traditions that connect us.

We’re already looking forward to doing it all again next year—and we hope you’ll join us.
